Pepi Stiegler

Pepi, a native of Lienz Austria, spent six years on the Austrian National ski team. He won a silver medal in Giant Slalom at the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics. At the 1964 Innsbruck Games, Pepi took home a bronze in the giant slalom and a gold in the slalom.
In 1965 he received a call from Paul McCollister, Founder of The Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. He persuaded Pepi to make the move to Jackson, and help the resort get on its feet.

Thirty Seven years later Pepi retired from his position as director of skiing for the resort. In his thirty plus years of service, Pepi made great contributions to the company. He founded the first ski school at the resort, eagerly lending his experience, enthusiasm, and expertise in the sport to all. In 2001 Pepi was rewarded for his accomplishments in the sport by being inducted into the National Ski Hall of Fame
In May of 2003, Pepi added to his list of accomplishments, receiving his degree in English literature from Montana State University.

These days you are more likely to find Pepi ski touring in Grand Teton National Park and cheering for his son Seppi and daughter Resi, who are following in their father’s racing foot steps.

She's represented the United States at every level of alpine ski racing - Topolino, Whistler Cup, Junior Worlds, World Cup, World Championships and the Olympics. She's won Junior Worlds medals and U.S. titles, and is looking to upgrade her World Cup top-5 performance to podiums and victories.

    UPDATE
Her easy smile and breezy style make Stiegler a crowd favorite. Crept closer to a World Cup podium, finishing fourth in super combined behind teammates Julia Mancuso (first) and Lindsey Kildow (second) in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Austria. She also advanced from 42nd overall to 25th overall in '07 as she kept gaining experience in all disciplines, expanding her traditional forte in slalom and growing muscle in GS. Said Coach Chris Knight, "Resi has incredible acceleration, and when she puts together two runs like she can ski, she'll be a winner. She's still working up to it...but she will be a winner.” She finished the season by collecting her first two U.S. championships - in slalom and GS at Alaska's Alyeska resort.

    FIRST TRACKS
She was skiing at 2, racing at 6. In '99, Stiegler was a silver medalist in GS and a bronze medalist in slalom at the Western J3 Juniors Olympics; a year later, she won gold in both events at the Junior Olympics. She earned World Cup starts for '03 by finishing second (with one win) in the 2002 Nor Am slalom points, then gave a preview of her 2003 breakout by tearing through European-packed fields (before the Park City World Cups) to finish sixth in the first two Chevy Truck Super Series giant slaloms. "I didn't go to World Juniors last year, so I'm gonna make it to the real World Championships this year,” she said. And she made it.
In her first Juniors Worlds in '03, she was bronze medalist in slalom and combined. Stiegler credits not only her parents but another Olympic champion and silver medalist - former Olympic and world champion Diann Roffe, who coached in a U.S. development program for several winters - with helping sculpt such a promising racer.
